drinks and mixology

Think bartending's a no-brainer?

think again!

If you thought being a bartender was simply pulling a pint of warm Carling and the only requirement being that you didn't over-do the head you are sadly mistaken.  Professional bartending is more of a vocation than a profession with quality mixologists spending years mastering the basics of preparing, creating and presenting the perfect concoction not to mention memorizing 150 different drinks and combinations.

With this in mind we have brought you the creme a'la creme of the cocktail world to guide you through the art of the perfect drink. Andy Coleman, our new resident MC 'master of cocktails', was initially trained by Rob Poulter and Wayne Collins (BBC's Something for the Weekend), two of best cocktail mixologist’s in the world so if he can't do it no-one can.

To date Andy has run a number of bars and restaurants within Oxford and London with credentials to date boasting numerous awards from mixology competitions, winning the So Flair competition in 2006 and being nominated to represent England in UK competitions.

Andy Coleman has created cocktails for Hine Cognac and Tanqueray Gin, including his award winning warm fruit brandy drink (a flame infused brandy cocktail) and his 21st Century Gin & Tonic.

Accolades & Awards:

  • World Class Bartender of the Year 2009 UK Finalist
  • Poole Safe Awards, Poole Council award for Quality in staff training.
  • 2006 So Flair Competition Winner
  • L.A. Bartenders Competition, UK Nominated Representative
  • Hine Brandy Mixology Competition Winner.
  • Que Pasa Bartender Competition, Finalist

U-Mix:

U-Mix Ltd was formed in 2005 by Andy Coleman where it started life as a training consultancy for the improvement of hospitality staff from those just employed staff to professionally trained career bartenders and service staff.  From there the company grew and in 2007 U-Mix Ltd expanded its company to include its very own establishment called Mai Tai Lounge Bar in the vibrant area of Lower Parkstone in Ashley Cross.

Mai Tai forms U-Mix’s Southern Training Academy of Bartenders where all the training and experience gathered from some of the industries finest professionals is imparted on the next generation of hospitality staff in a practical working environment.

Each month Andy will guide you through a step-by-step process of creating to impress from what to buy to the perfect presentation.  If you want to book Andy for your party just email him at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
