Less of the "God's Waiting Room" if you please!
Â
THE FACTS: Lets get something clear from the start, Bournemouth is a culturally buzzing town and tourist resort situated on the south coast of England. With a population of 164,000 it is the largest populations in Dorset with a cultured mix of the local and not-so local, the business professionals and students and money.
Make no mistake, the days of Bournemouth being 'God's waiting room' are gone. Don't get me wrong, this is still a hugely popular town for the senior-set but most have disposable incomes that stretch beyond a 99' and a Deck Chair and prefer to relax in one of the many up-market wine bars and hotels. And so with this money breeds more people arriving with cash to burn thus perpetuating the circle of life in Bournemouth.
Money aside, by far the 'Jewel' in the Crown of Bournemouth, and something it shouts loud-and-proud from both it's million-pound rooftops and it's Housing Association ones are it's stunning 'Blue Flag' golden sands, clear ocean water, water sports, champagne by intravenous drip, and houses that most peoples imaginations couldn't afford. Okay so i couldn't completely put the money to one-side but the point is this place truly has everything you could want. Got children? No problem. Got Money? No problem. Got a budget? No problem. Got a habit? er... No problem. The town and it's surrounding areas are alive with things to do whether you have the cash to splash or you want to give the impression you do. On the outskirts of Bournemouth Centre is the 'SOHO Quater' - an area stretching from Terrace Road to the top of Poole Hill and separated by a thriving gay community at The Triangle. The name was given by Priva and Monkberry's boss Josh Simons to create a catchment area for the more discerning although this isn't evident yet as the only venues the 'discerning' would go to in this area are Hamptons, Priva and Monkberry's, perhaps in time more clubs will open here but until then don't get too exited by the name, it's not the SOHO you would expect. In the opposite direction to SOHO is Exeter Road and the Pier Approach. Much like the SOHO it sets itself apart from other areas of the town because of it's quality and pure volume of Hotels however as it's got more quality venues in a small radius you don't have to walk more than 50-metres to get to the next offering. With world-class cocktails at the historic 1812 and Bar So (formerly Lord Tregonwell's residence and now the Royal Exeter Hotel), fine dining at Aruba, 2 AA Rosette Westbeach, Funki Sushi, The Crab and the carnivors dream which is Steak Out as well as world-class entertainment provided by the Bournemouth International Centre, this side of the town is where tourists and residents mix with ease. Â
Conclusions:
If you are looking for a place to party on a budget then it's easy here, with it's huge student community discount deals are everywhere. Likewise if you have cash to spend and look for something a little more selective then it's in abundance here. The crux of it is that Bournemouth has everything for the pubber, clubber, water enthusiast and family.
