What they say:
Our bar and restaurant’s name is in recognition of the massive historical impact this building has had on the town over the past two centuries. 1812 Management would like to thank all of its loyal customers and staff who have helped make the first three years such a success seeing us winners and runners up for several awards, one of which rating us in the top four in the country.
As with the architecture of this historic building, 1812 mixes the important traditional elements with more contemporary themes. This flows through all our designs and menus, offering old century established cocktails balanced with an excellent range of new century drinks. Our food is traditional and affordable with a contemporary twist and the new world wines stand shoulder to shoulder to offer our customers the best possible choice.

Not what you expect from a Hotel.

Okay so it's attached to and part of the Royal Exeter Hotel but walking into this gem of a bar you are struck by how far away it could possibly be to a 'Hotel Bar'.We went to 1812 on a Friday night, walking through the doors we were presented with a heaving mass of socialites, cocktails for the ladies, bottles of beer for the lads and jazz echoing throughout with one of the regular jazz outfits, lights were low and the long bar was the place to be. Funnily enough walking into 1812 felt less intimidating than you would think, maybe this was due to the drinkers having a high than normal level of self-importance and enjoyed their own company more perhaps we were these very people and blended in, whatever the reason we floated around the room with ease and soaked up the ambiance. As you would expect from a 'High-end' establishment, 1812 sets it's prices where you would expect a flagship such as 1812 to set them but as you don't go there with a Walkabout budget there are no misguided misconceptions, you simply can't get leathered on a tenner unless you have the alcohol tolerance of a ten year old. So what did we think in a nutshell? Well it can be summarised in four simple words... worth forking out for! |
